St. Paul City School Spring Concert

Last Thursday, March 13, ComMUSICation opened for St. Paul City School's Spring Concert. The first song the group performed was "Karibuni" arranged by Tim Gregory which means "Welcome" in Swahili. Their second piece was "The Rosa Parks". Using the text from the poem by Nikki Giovanni, Music Director Ryan LaBoy, created the arrangement. The last song performed by ComMUSICation was "Bring Me Little Water Silvie" by HW Ledbetter and arranged by Moira Smiley. The kids presented a wonderful represenation of unity and sang a beautiful set of music. Check out the photo gallery to the left!

On Sunday, March 16, ComMUSICation was invited to attend a Cantus performance. Cantus is a premier men's vocal ensemble from Saint Paul though they tour all over the country. The group enjoyed the show and then went out for ice cream with Cantus after the incredible performance as seen in the slideshow to the right!
Spring Rhapsody Concert at Sundin Music Hall

On Saturday April 12, Saint Paul Conservatory of Music presented a Musical Celebration and Benefit Concert for Music For All at Hamline University's Sundin Music Hall. ComMUSICation was invited to perform with the SPCM Children's Chorus as well as sing a couple selections on their own. They took the stage with SPCM Children's Chorus and sang Round and Round (a traditional round) directed by Kathy Lee and then with the musical direction of Ryan LaBoy and accompaniment of Jacob Dodd, they sang Wind on the Hill by Victoria Ebel-Sabo and Wanting Memories by Ysaye Barnwell.
Pen Pal Performance

ComMUSICation students had the opportunity to meet their senior pen pals from King's Crossing. Students have been writing letters to their pen pals for six weeks. For many students, they learned how to address an envelope and read cursive for the first time. It was such a joy to have them!
Light Rail Performance

On June 14, 2014, ComMUSICation performed at the new Victoria LRT station with community members led by Libby Turner from Camphor Methodist Church to celebrate the opening of the Green Line Light Rail that runs from Minneapolis to St. Paul.

ComMUSICation performed for over 1000 people at 7 different performances during summer camp. The kids learned Ghanian drumming from Sowah Mensah, and performed at western sculpture garden, youth farm, St Paul City School, Frogtown Farm, and Mears Park.
Singing at the Twins Game!

It was an amazing experience singing at the Twins game on September 17, 2014. The kids enjoyed pizza before taking the green line to Target Field in downtown Minneapolis. Just before the game, with the attention of thousands in the stadium, CMC gave a wonderful rendition of the national anthem.
Performing our Opera!

ComMUSICation sang at MN Opera Center on the evening of November 3rd and at the George Latimer Public Library in St. Paul on November 8th. Over 200 people attended both events! The kids performed spirited renditions of the music they have composed, as well as pieces such as O, Colored Earth by MN composer Steven Heitzeg, and Roar by Katy Perry. The group had a wonderful time on November 14th singing from studio to studio at the Do the Dow silent auction, and received an enthusiastic ovation from the audience.
Shakespeare Winterfest with MN Orchestra

In February ComMUSICation was selected as the non-profit highlighted by MN Orchestra's Shakespeare Winterfest, a two-week festival of music and readings inspired by Shakespeare's writings. The event included drink special proceeds to benefit CMC, a silent auction, and a performance before MN Orchestra's performance on February 13th. The group was accompanied by MN Orchestra bassist Bill Schrickel, violinist Jean Marker De Vere, and CMC accompanist Jacob Dodd playing the piano.
